Manchester City are prepared to offer midfielder Yaya Toure a new contract, according to both the Guardian and the Mirror. Although unsure if he will accept, Pep Guardiola and Txiki Begiristain are willing to give Toure an opportunity to play under Pep next season. However, Toure may have to accept a considerable decrease in his £210,000 a week wages if he decides to stay at City.

Despite being excluded by Guardiola until November at the start of the season, Yaya has made a significant contribution to City’s campaign since, scoring 6 goals in 28 appearances. Clearly, Pep must believe that the Ivorian’s output has been good enough to offer him the chance to stay for an eighth season in Manchester.

Toure played under Pep at Barcelona, and the Spaniard will hope that his midfielder ignores any other offers, such as a potential deal at Premier League rivals West Ham.

Because of their intentions for Yaya – who turned 34 on Saturday – to remain at the City, nothing will be done to honour him during tomorrow’s game vs West Brom. Instead, Pablo Zabaleta, who announced on Saturday that he would be leaving City at the end of the season, will receive plenty of farewell messages during his last game at the Etihad.

According to the Mirror, only Jesus Navas and Tosin Adarabioyo are the only other players who will receive new deals out of the remaining 5 squad members who have contracts running out in summer. This would mean Gaël Clichy, Bacary Sagna, and Willy Caballero would depart at the end of the season.
